Tuesday marked the airing of the first episode of Mannat Murad and the drama has seemed to impress audience from the get go. Its time for Iqra Aziz’s fans to rejoice as the actress is back with a bang after a long hiatus. Starring as the title character of Mannat in Mannat Murad, Iqra Azis is glamourous and exudes confidence, even in her brief presence in the first episode.

The Story

Mannat Murad revolves around the namesake Mannat (Iqra Aziz) and Murad (Talha Chahour) and their struggle to find love. The first episode showed how Murad’s mother is a control freak when it comes to her children. She values her son above everything else, placing her daughters secondary to everything. For Razia Sultana (Irsa Ghazal) her son is the epitome of her existence and she will go to any lengths to protect her son from the evils of her relatives and girls outside who are all eyeing her son as she believes it to be. Razia Sultana has an authoritarian approach when it comes to love marriages. She has an elderly daughter whom she didn’t marry off because she liked someone else. Her other two daughters, one happily married with a husband Razia Sultana despises and another reduced to doing chores around the house, are wary of their mother’s attitude towards them.

Even despite so many restrictions Murad fancies a girl who drops her earring inside the elevator at work. He also feels suffocated with the controlling nature of his mother, who overreacts on the tiniest things possible. Razia Sultana has spent her life as a widow looking after her children and now she expects the same in return from her son, specially when it comes to choosing a bride and valuing her more than his mother and sisters. However, this is a brother, who wants to sacrifice his dreams and ambitions for the happiness of his elder sister who hasn’t been able to get married yet.

On the other hand we have Mannat, a well to do, confident and beautiful university pass out who doesn’t hesitate to point out workplace harassment when she receives an unknown call at an ungodly hour at night. Mannat’s style is impeccable and her bold, courageous nature that inspires people around her.

What We Think of Mannat Murad

Iqra Aziz as Mannat and Talha Chahour as Murad have their own presence in the show but the showstopper for Mannat Murad has to be Irsa Ghazal. The first episode showed very little of Mannat but more of Razia Sultana and Murad’s family dynamics, especially his mother. Razia Sultana might come across as super annoying, portraying the character of Murad’s mom, but the lady Irsa Ghazal, has nailed her character to the T. Not only has she picked up the Punjabi accent as it should be, she has also mastered the mannerisms of desi, Punjabi moms and their differentiated reactions towards their daughters and sons.

For a first episode, Mannat Murad started off at a high note. Audience are sure to flock to a drama that has the perfect mix of emotions and comic relief in a multi-faceted story. For now, we enjoyed the first episode of Mannat Murad. What did you people think?
